Founder Bowl - Crusaders Vs Cwmcarn
First match played in 1970 at the opening of our present junior field, which was paid for by Miners Welfare and Playing Fields Association. The opening ceremony was performed by Neil Kinnock, in front of the largest crowd we have had on that field. Crusaders won 5-0. Celenyn Colliery Band was in attendance and really made it a special occasion.
Crusaders and Cwmcarn played a "one off" friendly in 1963, but snowballed to the formation of the "Crosskeys and District League",and then on later to be called Islwyn Youth League. The annual fixture was always the focal point of the season for many years, The age groups have varied in line with the age groups available at the time, if plenty of age groups were available then we varied fixtures to try and give every boy the chance of a founders bowl medal.
