Bluebirds 5-1 Crusaders 'B'
Sat - 20/08/05
K.O. - 3pm
After Barely Scraping a side together the Second Team set off for Trethomas. Arriving late and mentally unprepared for this encounter with the physical Trethomas the Crue's were quickly 2 down after only Ten minutes.Slack defending was the route cause of these goals but with a make-shift defence it was hard to give criticism. With Gavin Drobac in the sticks was powerless to prevent these goals. After this early wake up call the boys started to play some neat, attractive football creating a few good chances to score and stopped Trethomas getting any further goals until half time.
Second half saw the Crue's still playing good football go down another goal but heads didn't drop although it was another defensive error. With the Score at 3.0 it was time for some drastic action, Coach Thomas decided to use his "One and Only" Sub Chris the "Super Tanker" Parnell.Known for his ability to turn quicker than the Titanic and leave the QE2 standing over 10 Feet he graced the field to burst through the Trethomas midfield and send Ryan Speed down the Left Flank. He continued he run and with his second touch of the game volleyed in to make the score 3.1.The Crue's then had a few chances to reduce the deficit further but were unable to take advantage and Trethomas scored Two late goals.
Final Score in this Drab affair was 5.1 in favour of the Trethomas Bluebirds.

Whiteheads 0-6 Crusaders 'B'
Venue - Fields Park
K.O. - 6.15
Could this have been the last game played at the Fields Park Stadium, for the Gwent County Crusaders?????
With the Team ready to move to their New 150 Seater Stadium just down the Road in Pontllanfraith (Not yet Ready due to Construction Issue's), they had to play this encounter at the their old stomping ground "Fields Park" which won't be missed by some players, especially the ones who have to get the Footballs from down the Banking or in the Surrounding Forestry!!With this being a Mid week fixture it was always going to be difficult to name a strong side but some Shift Swapping and Early finishing saw a good turn out from the Lads. This caused a selection dilemma for Coach Thomas, one which he would prefer too have than not!!!
With the Side picked a ready to go the Crue's opted to give Whiteheads KO and stay facing the way they were.Who could have predicted this start, Slasher being played through, by a defence splitting ball from Curly to open up the scoring inside 2 minutes. The Crowd were stunned, not used to this sort of start unless the opposition are scoring.
The Crue's had a number of chances to increase their lead through Curly and Slasher but both were denied by the Whiteheads Keeper. At the other end Johnny Fishcake deputised in Goal (as there was no-one else who'd do it) and was called upon to make a few good saves to keep the Lads in front.
The Second half saw Matty Reynolds come on up front and Dan "The Hitman" Howells came off to a rapturous standing ovation.Slasher reverted to Left Wing-Back, a few more good chances went begging before a Substitution was forced and Ben "Mongo" Murphy had to be brought on for Nelly.Almost as if he had a point to prove after giving away a penalty in the last Five at Thornwell the previous week to give them the draw, Murphy was determined to make amends and did so coming up for a corner. The Ball wasn't cleared and he pounced to give the Crue's a 2 Goal Lead.Within minutes of the restart some wayward defending by White heads saw Slasher capitalise for us to go 3 up and bag his second of the evening.More Chances followed before Curly got in on the act and Bagged a goal then created a penalty for Slasher to get his Hat-Trick.A great Save from fishcake kept the Score line to Zero, then Curly and Reynolds between them beat the keeper and Curly put the Ball away for the Sixth of the evening.
Although the win was comprehensive in the end, there is still a lot of room for improvement and Saturdays away Trip to Abergavenny Thursday's will be a Tough test.
A great start to the Season for the Crusaders B Team, with 4 points already on the Board after 3 games.

Abergavenny Thursdays 0-4 Crusaders 'B'
Date - 27/08/05
Venue - Abergavenny
K.O - 3pm
After the Midweek thrashing of White Heads the highly charged Crusaders made their way to Abergavenny for a clash with the Joint Top Side. The game started well with chances for the Crue's to take an early lead, only to be denied through some good goal keeping. With the Game progressing the Crue's took full advantage of this massive pitch to exploit the home side's fitness levels.
A defence splitting ball down the Right Flank put Slasher in a great position too cross for Gavin "The Flash" Williams to net his first goal of the season. The Crue's were rampant at this point when Ben "The Mongo" Murphy stepped up for a Corner and after a goal mouth scramble he turned like "Joe Cole" to net his second goal in as many games, this defender maybe be Thick As.... but he's got to be impressing the First Team Manager with this sort of form. With Half time approaching the Crue's were dealt a blow when Ian "The Budgie" Burgess pulled up with a Hamstring problem, forcing Coach Thomas to bring on Want Away Utility Man "Bazzerelli" This lad has been eyeing up his chances with the First Team and had a point to prove to First Team Manager Keith Knott, who was watching this epic encounter!!!
The Second half brought about more chances to score with Bazz hitting a close range effort over the Bar.After this he had a word off the Coach which must have inspired him, as his next attempt was alot better and he also opened his account for the season. At 3 Nil up there was no way back for the Thursday's and the Crue's had chance after chance to increase their lead further but it a took a penalty from "Jonny Fishcake" to make it 4.0.
John has been playing in goals for the Crue's in the last 2 games and hasn't been beaten.Probably the first time the Crue's have gone 2 games in a row without conceding but his preferred role is up front. With about 10 minutes left the Crue's inspirational Captain Gavin Evans, also Pulled up with an injury but with no Subs available he had to stay on and go up top for the remainder of the game. This seemed to cure his injury as he ran through on goal about 3 times missing every time and then blaming it on the Leg.Not the sort of excuse we've come to expect from this Lad but there's a first time for everything.Just like when he finally scores?s for us!!!
The Thursday's were well beaten on the Day and it should have been by a lot more than the 4 in the end but with "Shooting Practice" down as the first port of call in Tonight's Training session the Lads should hopefully learn a thing or two for the Next Game which is at the New 150 seater Stadium in Pontllanfraith against the Old enemy Pontymister. This Local Derby has always been a hard fought affair but this time the Crue's are taking no prisoners and are looking for the Maximum 3 points on offer!!The Lads have been given a Week of by the Coach to Re-charge the Batteries with the Internationals taking place. The Lads have decided to go to Cardiff to watch the Mighty Wales take on the "Old Enemy" .With World Cup dreams shattered, Wales are looking to dent the chances of England Qualifying at the Millennium Stadium.
Man of the Match - Ben Murphy
Dummy of the Match - Slasher - Yes he came back to the club for the first time in about 3 years to not only have a Dummy but also a Man of the Match Pint from Wednesday where he scored a Hat-Trick. 4 - 0 has put the Crue's in a Top 5 League Position and we are looking to improve on this in the coming weeks.

Jane Roberts
Crusaders U11's Vs Pengam U11's
After an impressive start to the season last week away to Treowen which Dai Prosser and Nushet took the team under their wing, it was Jeff and Mark's turn to take the boys.
The pitch was set up early and the butterflies were in our belly as we got the boys ready for the first home game of the season.
Plenty turned out to support both sides and the crowd was loud and friendly, which made the teams relax and play good football.
There was a great flow to the game with the Cru's growing self belief that they can play good passing football and once again Luke Harris controlled the midfield with the help of good running from Lloyd Roberts and Liam Parsons. Elliot Bartlett slotted well into the centre of midfield alongside Luke and performed well (he rose to the challenge).
Lewis Mellor once again led the line up front and looked dangerous with every touch of the ball, twisting and turning with the ball at his feet and had some good chances which was rewarded with his first goal of the season late in the 2nd half.
Defence was outstanding with both Kurt and Kyle showing both strength and skill, both making excellent runs from defence. Mozzy the keeper was at his usual outstanding form which can only increase the confidence of his defence.
Our first goal and his first for Cru's came from Nathan Evans and his face was full of joy, well done Nathan.
Our second came from Lewis.
Well done Cru's as we have said your good enough and the proof is there for all to see.

Cefn Forest 'Thirds' V Crusaders 'Thirds'
30/08/2005
North Gwent AFL Division One
Cefn Fforest United 'B' v Crusaders.
Venue - Britannia Fields, Cefn Fforest.
Attendance - 40 Approx
Referee - Chris Postians
The weather was brilliant for this North Gwent opening encounter, the pitch was very hard though. Templers had plenty of players to choose from. With many players turning up for the 1st time this season (and that includes training too), there was going to be a full 16 kitted up.
Temps decided to copy fellow managers David Thomas and Keith Knott by copying the 3-5-2 formation. A strange decision was made when Steven Prosser was named Captain. Hardly the most vocal player on the pitch and 0 training appearances to date.
The game started with the Crus having slightly more of the possession but no real chances were created in the 1st half hour. The 1st chance fell to Judge who blazed over the bar. Shortly after a John Postians cross from a free-kick was fumbled in by the Cefn keeper. However, it was disallowed with Scott Gilchrist apparently fouling the keeper on his way.
The keeper appeared to jump into his own defender though. The warning signs for Cefn were soon there when Gavin Drobac was played through. It didn't look like he was fast enough to get to the ball but he somehow connected with a volley on his out-stretched leg to hit the cross-bar. The Postians free-kicks from virtually anywhere were to be a weapon all evening. 5 minutes before half-time John Postians was to have a free-kick from 40 yards out. It ws swung in wickedly @ the back post where Johnny Smith was on hand to spectacularly score a diving header. 1-0 to the Crus @ half-time
The opening of the 2nd half was to prove important. Crus kept possession well and played some nice football which frustrated Cefn a little. Cefn failed to create any good chances which was fortunate as Alla Beesh was in the sticks.
On the hour it was to be another John Postians free-kick who yet again found Jonny Smith. Smith rose well and headed over the Cefn Keeper for 2-0. Once again, Cefn couldn't get themselves back in the game and without 20 minutes to go Jonny Smith was fouled on the left hand side of the pitch. It was substitue Gavin Williams who whipped in the free-kick this time and it was met on the head of Leon Reeves for 3-0. By now, Cefn had gone and Crusaders were making chances left, right and centre. Jonny Smith out-paced a Cefn defender and was hacked down in the box for a penalty. Smith lifted himself back up to take the spot kick himself. He placed his penalty well and completed his hat trick for 4-0. Chances were still being made as Cefn had gone. Substitute Wan was played through by fellow sub Bones, but his shot was just wide. Dan Howls had the last chance of the game but he passes it into the keeper?s hands from 5 yards out.
Brilliant result and a great start to the season. Every player done their job well.
Man Of The Match - Jonny Smith. Will obviously not be a 3rds player when all
3 teams are playing. Used his experience well and was too much for Cefn to handle.
Dummy Of The Match - Dan Howls. Come on, run about for no reason and had an embarrassing miss @ the end. Unlucky Dog.

Wayne Brinkley
Llanhilleth Athletic V Crusaders 'Thirds'
September 6th 2005
North Gwent Division 1
Venue - Llanhilleth Mountains
Referee - Steve Williams
Attendance - 30 approx
With Crusaders making a very promising start against Cefn in the previous week and Llanhilleth suffering a heavy home defeat, many expected another 3 points for the Crus. This was never going to be the case with Llanhilleth fielding some 1st teamers and Crusaders having a very different line-up.
The Crus entered some of the best dressing rooms that's available in the North Gwent only to find out that it wasn't Llanhilleth?s main pitch that was being used. Instead, after everybody got changed, the players had to get back into the cars and make the journey way up a few rally tracks into the mountains.
The pitch was pretty bad, being very dry and having a few pot holes. The ball was always going to bounce about really badly on such a tiny pitch making it difficult for defenders. With Templers missing, Andy Simpkins was the arranged Manager for the day. His lack of experience certainly showed when nervously naming a 4-4-2 line-up. Steven Prosser was to continue as Captain.
Once again there was no recognised Goalkeeper, so Wayne Brinkley offered his services for the sticks. Mark Beecham had his turn in the previous game and wasn't tested so Brinkley thought it would be easy enough (OH NO).
After a typical North Gwent build up, both sides showed good desire to win from early on. The Crus took the lead after about 10 minutes. A trademark cross from Gavin Hoare was volleyed well by Julian Parr (Judge) but it was straight @ the keeper. Luckily, he was on hand to head-in the re-bound. 1-0 Crus. Llanhilleth were then the better team and on top for 20 minutes.
Nobody could handle Llanhilleths tricky little left winger and their pacey striker. Llanhilleth soon replied and made it 1-1. The Crus defence was all over the shop, with Stuart Thomas miss-judging everything in the air. Dan Morgan wasn't even chopping anyone down and Budgies experience wasn't showed. The Llanhilleth striker was put through again rounded Brinkley and scoring from an acute angle. Crus kept going, and looked good going forward, however, the counter accounts by Llanhilleth simply weren't being dealt with. Dan Morgan tripped their left winger and Llanhilleth scored the resulting penalty. 3-1 Llanhilleth. Still 5 minutes for the Crus to get a goal back before half time and the confidence was still there going forward.
After a Gavin Hoare cross was only half cleared, youngster Wan on hand to drill a super strike into the bottom left hand corner. Unfortunately Llanhilleth restored their 2 goal advantage on the stroke of half time.
Confusion between the centre-halves and Brinkley allowed Llanhilleths striker to get in and lob a simple goal. 4-2 to Llanhilleth half time.
Crusaders started the 2nd half knowing that all 3 points were still there to be won. 10 minutes after the break the come back was on when Gavin Hoare crossed again to and Judge who headed in (JUST) @ the far post. Neither side took control and the game was scrappy but still played @ a frantic pace.
With 20 minutes to go, the Crus defence look puzzled as Llanhileths striker was put through again. This time, he had luck with his shot as it deflected off Dan Morgan past a flapping Wayne Brinkley. 5-3 Llanhilleth and the task of getting something out of the game was looking a real struggle. Crus piled on the pressure for a while with many attacks and many corners resulting in the progress. A couple of snap-shot scrambles were blocked desperately by Llanhilleth as they looked to get their 1st league win in over a season after being relegated from the Premier Division. Crusaders soon got what they deserved after another scrambled corner. The ball fell kindly to Steven Prosser who buried from close range. 5-4 Llanhilleth with 10 minutes remaining. With Crus attacking so much, Llanhilleth still looked ever so dangerous on the break and their midfielder broke forward to crack in 20 yard strike into the bottom corner with just 5 minutes to go.
A 10 goal thriller that went Llanhilleths way on this occasion.
Man of the Match - Steven Prosser. He may not talk too much for a Captain but he battled well up front and deserved his goal.
Dummy Of The Match - Mark Beecham - With no appearances pre-season, his fitness showed against a good left winger. Most in-effective performance seen in a long time.

Crickhowell Vs Crusaders
Venue Crickhowell Farm Land (Literally)
Date 24/09/05
High expectations for this game as the First team game had been postponed due to no Referee, so the second team coach had the choice of players from both squads. Opting to only take 3 first team players for this encounter they lads set off on the Long trip to the Back of Beyond.
Arriving with plenty of time before K.O. the side was picked and the lads, for the first time in ages took to the field for a pre-match warm up. With No keeper due to technical difficulties, Jonny Fishcake had to revert to another 90 minutes in the sticks. The Playing surface was almost as bad as the Caldicot Castle ground which was like playing on Waste ground!!
The First ten minutes of the game were evenly matched with the Crusaders creating a few chances but not really testing the Keeper. Like wise for the remainder of the half we were the better side but couldn?t finish. Right on the stroke of half time Curly Lewis got nailed by the big dumb centre half (not Murphy) and could take no further part in the game. This was where most of our attacking came from, this was a major blow for the Lads.
The Ref then Blew for half time with the score at 0 ? 0.
Crickhowell started the second half like they really wanted to win this game and played some good football. They created a few half chances before some slack marking saw a free header for their striker who headed downwards and A bad bounce off this uneven surface saw the ball bobble into the net. The Crusaders were lack lustre in attack and even when the formation was changed we did not create a single moment to talk about. The final ball into the box was very poor giving the centre forwards nothing to feed off. For the remainder of the game the Crusaders were up-against it and Crickhowell had 4 outstanding strikes on goal, which were all excellently saved by stand in goal keeper Fishcake. The final whistle blew to the relief of some players and the lack of training by some of these players was clear to see.
Final Score Crickhowell 1 Crusaders 0.
This was definitely a game of Two Halves with the Crusaders not turning up for the Latter and paying the price for lack of effort from certain players.
Men of the Match:
Jonny Fishcake ? Made Four outstanding saves keeping the game alive
Andy Simpkins ? Never stopped running, chased everything down and fought to the last whistle to get something from this game.
Dummy of the Match:
Nicky Thomas ? This lad is Jeckle and Hide if he?s working afternoons then he?s fine but when the lad has a Friday night Drink he?s a waste of time on a Saturday!!!

Monmouth Town V Crusaders
Sundey 25th September
Under 18
Monmouth Town 1-5 Crusaders
On a sunny Sunday afternoon Crusaders made the long trip to Monmouth, with the game only two minutes old Crus were one nil down after conceding a penalty.
This however spurred Crus into action and Sean Chidgey outpaced the defence and coolly scores his first goal of the afternoon. This was followed by several near misses before a inch perfect pass from Crus answer to Zidane Tom Watkins put in Robert Lewis who then chipped the Keeper to leave the score 2-1 at half time.
With the wind at their backs Crus continued to press forward which produced another for Sean Chidgey, this was followed with a goal for Andrew Norris who received a pass from Lewis Hillier and then put the ball into the bottom left hand corner. The final goal of the game came from Tom Watkins who received a pass from Greg Hughes and fired the ball into the roof of the net.
This was a good all round performance by the team with once again the defence of Richard Crompton, Tom Davies, Chris Evans and James Rowlands outstanding with Ryan Macdonald producing a fine save at the end of the game.

Crusaders 'Thirds' V Nantyglo
North Gwent Division 1 - 10/09/2005
Venue - Hockey Field
Referee - Ian Gilchrist
Attendance - 30+ (Mainly Nantyglo fans)
On a wet afternoon. Crusaders welcomed League Newcomers Nantyglo to the Hockey Field.
Many old faces returned to eventually start another season against a Nantyglo side who have started well. Manager Templers had a squad of 14 for this early season encounter, but it was a re-shuffled pack as several players were drafted up to the reserves to play. Goalkeeper Cat returned in goals and left-back Niblo unfortunately returned to the starting XI after claiming he'd retired in the summer. With Steven Prosser 1 of the players promoted to the reserves, Scott Gilchrist was Captain.
The Crus had a very different line-up and 1st half it showed as Nantyglo were the better side. They had more possession, won most of the 2nd balls and has more of an urgency to their game than the Crus did. The Niblo slice was working to Nantyglo?s perfection in these conditions. Judge and Alla Beesh were very shy up front. The 1st goal came after about 20 minutes. Nantyglo?s centre half stepped up to chip in a free-kick only for it to swing into the top corner against a stranded Cat doing a fine impression of David Seaman being fooled by Ronaldinho. The only notable chance of the 1st half was When Scott Gilchrist ran onto a throw-in to fire wide from 20 yards. 5 minutes before the break, the Crus were to make things hard for themselves as per usual. A mix-up in defence between Niblo and Templers led to their striker nipping a goal in to make it 2-0 at half time.
After the break, Crus started positively. Alyn Prosser on for Wayne Brinkley on the right hand side was a relief to everyone. Shortly followed was youngster Dane Whittaker on for Mark Beecham. Dane latched onto a couple of long balls using his pace to run past an ageing Nantyglo defence. Unfortunately, both his chances were fired straight at the keeper. The Crus were much the better team in the 2nd period but couldn?t convert any chances into goals. With about 20 minutes to go Nantyglo were awarded a penalty against the run of play. Stuart Thomas blocked a goal-bound shot with his arm. The penalty was converted and it looked impossible for Crus to get anything out of the game. Straight from the kick off Crus kept attacking positively though. A free-kick from 30 yards out was awarded. Judge was the man to chip the ball into the box. It fell to Captain Scott Gilchrist, who turned and out-muscled a defender to slide the ball home. 3-1. Glimmer of hope for the Crus once again. Dane Whittaker was to have another chance blocked by the keeper but it wasn?t to be the youngsters? day. Dan Morgans managed to hit the bar albeit a cross after a run from down the right-hand side. Gilchrist had a chance from the edge of the area but his left foot strike was over. In the dying minutes, Nantyglo relied on another counter attack and managed to nick a final goal against a tired Crusaders side. 4-1 to Nantyglo. However, Crus should have had a consolation in injury time. Stuart Thomas?s header from a corner was saved but then he missed a sitter of a re-bound, skying it with his left foot. 4-1 flattered early season hopefuls Nantyglo, but they deserved 3 points. Crusaders done well considering a very changed line-up and with a few youngsters coming through, there should be a lot more competition for places in the side for weeks to come
Man of the Match - Captain Scott Gilchrist. Won his battles in midfield and led by example. Unfortunate not to lead his side to a better result
Dummy of the Match - Shane Badham. Should have stuck to his word and retired in the summer after this performance. With a fresh greasy surface in play, his slice was to benefit Nantyglo?s attackers all afternoon.

Crusader Vs Tredegar U11's
11 players
Formation 3 5 2
A good game of football was played today with both teams working hard and it was a very clean and fair match.
Today saw the debut of Callum Hillman in the centre of defence and he held his own with some good strong tackling and accurate passing (a great debut Callum). Along side of him was Liam and Kurt and this trio look very promising indeed, all strong tacklers with big hearts and engines.
Mid field was packed with five players Luke Harris as the anchor with Lloyd on the right, Ryan on the left, Elliot and Kyle in the middle. Luke did a great job breaking up Tredegars play, Lloyd constantly picking up the loose ball, Kyle strong in the tackle and Elliot and Ryan causing havoc on the left constantly turning Tredegars back line. This by the way was Ryan's finest performance I seen him play, skinning their right back and getting to the line to cross the ball virtually at will. They not only had to deal with this but we then had Liam flying down the right doing the same.
Up front we had twinkle toes Mellor weaving his magic ghosting past the tacklers with the ball stuck to his feet and with him saw firstly Iestyn then Nathan grafting away making a nuisance of themselves to allow twinkle toes to do his bit.
A cracking goal and his first for the Cru's came from Luke Harris who hit a left foot volley into the back of the net, but unfortunately he had to come off due to a swollen head (knee). All the boys played very well today and the potential is there for all to see. A big thank you to the parents who came to shout the boys on.

Crusaders under 18s vs Pentwynmawr
Sunday 2nd oct 2005
Crusaders local derby with Pentwynmawr under 18's.
Crusaders started the game looking bright even though a few key players were missing through injury etc. 10 mins gone and Sean Chidgey opened the scoring with a great pass from Andrew Norris. Pentwynmawr soon responded with a goal the game was back on! Both sides looking pretty even here when sean Chidgey scored his 2nd of the day Crus were looking good at this point putting plenty of pressure on Pent. after a good spell of possession pent conceded a corner which led to Thomas Watkins (Aka The Legend!!) scoring to make the score 3-1 cruz. Crus then lost concentration as every1 celebrated the goal which lead to pent Scoring straight from there kick off a great shot from the half way line crus were shocked. pent then started to attack crus which nearly resulted in a penalty from a challenge by Thomas Watkins in the box Pent were frustrated by this and argued with the ref who showed a red card to a pent player. Pent down 2 10 men! the half time whistle goes crus looking the favorites to win the match!
Crus started the 2nd half looking dull and 3 changes were made Lewis Hillier Thomas Watkins and Chris Evans being replaced by Ashley Baker,Alex Bullen and Ashley reid. However these changes were not very effective and crus continued to look tired no one seemed not up for the game this gave pent the edge as they continued to attack even though down to 10 men. Pent continued to put pressure on crus and pulled a goal back the score now at 3-3 crus did not respond to this and pent took advantage scoring another 2 goals to end the score at 5-3.

VENUE: Hockey Field

Crusaders started the day with yet another changed line-up against and RTB side that has started very well. Gavin Hoare put the home side up with a superb free-kick.
RTB scored a deserved equaliser. It was a very even game on a nice day for a game of football. Crus then slowly started to make home advantage count. The back 4 were solid for the rest of the game with Player-Manager Templers and Stuart Thomas like rocks at the back. Shane Bowen held the midfield well allowing Gavin Hoare to go forward and run the show basically. Julian Parr was also having a good game up front. If people thought Gavin Hoares goal was a good 1 then step forward Kelvin Adams. On his 1st start for the 3rds side this season, he managed to pick the ball up. There were plenty of Crus players in the box shouting for Adams to cross into the box but from nowhere, Adams hits an un-stoppable 30 yard curling shot. 2-1 to the Crus and a very deserved victory.
Man Of The Match - Gavin Hoare. Looking strong coming back from injury and lit the game up by running the show
Dummy Of The Match - Mark Beecham. Yet another in-effective performance.

Goal scorer Katie Davies
m.o.m. Katie Davies.
After quite a good start to the season, drawing away to Aberbargoed losing to Beaufort and Oakdale, but all with good performances we came up against Abertillery.
In a close start to the game we managed to get an early goal by way of a free kick and a well placed header from Katie. that was it I don't know what happened to our players after the goal but Abertillery came at us, wave after wave we couldn't tackle or match their will to win . inevitably they scored 5 unanswered goals to walk away with 3 points. please will the real 16s attend the game v. Pentwynmawr next week. 09/10/2005 13:52 Mark Roberts U11's Fluer Vs Crusaders Had a warm welcome today by the Fluer U11's staff and it was a beautiful day for football. We played 8 a side today so with 4 subs we changed quite regular to keep the team fresh, but also to try the players in different positions.
Cru's quickly took control of the midfield with Lloyd in the centre making good runs and using the two wide boys well, Elliot was captain and performed well on the right. Another great display by Ryan (lefty) on the left, again using his speed and ball control to get to the byline. He also linked up well with Liam in the left back position. Ryan was rewarded with his first gaol of the season.
Twinkle Toes Mellor played up front by his self and banged in a hatrick. At the back we started with Liam (left), Callum (centre) and Kurt (right)who all performed well with Callum taking the ball out of defence and putting Fleur's midfield under alot of pressure. His reward for this was a goal and Man of the Match, his second game for the Cru's and another fine display.
Kyle came on and was his reliable self once again, Iestyn went up front for Twinle Toes to have a "Whiff" and was unlucky not to get on the end of some lovely passes ( he too could of had a Hatrick).
Billy and Nathan took to the field and both got involved in some nice play.
All in all the boys played well with everyone having good slab of time on the pitch and we now have had our best start to a season since these boys came together. Well done lads.
Next week we are at home so come down and support the boys.

With the first team leaving early for their round the world trip to Port Talbot, the seconds were left with around 10 regulars due to a Mid Season Stag Weekend and Welsh International in Iraq(AKA N.Ireland).
Waiting till the last possible moment to leave for the New All Seater Stadium "Stade de Pont" the seconds were forced to give Debuts to "Random" Robert Trig and Ian "Arthur" Daley. Although, the lads had been playing very well in the respective division they had to make the step up to the "Big Time". With Ebbw Vale Bottom of the League this game was a good chance to get a much needed win.
Starting positively the Crus's were quickly on the attack and could have opened up the scoring after slick passing between Slasher and Fishcake to create the chance for "soon to be Dummy of the Match", Justin Edwards, which he hit straight at the keeper. Another couple of chances were created but lack luster finishing saw an irate Coach Thomas spit his dummy clean out of his pram!! Was this going to be one of those games???? After another few minutes a chance was created for the "In & Out of form" Nick "The Engine" Thomas which he took bravely to give the Crue's the Lead. With this Ebbw Vale started to play a little and a few mistakes from Trig and Daley saw a number of chances go begging, the last of which was an open goal to which the Striker hit over, much to the relief of the home fan - Trog!!! Referee Mr Postians let a few rash challenges go before blowing for half time. A quick word was required with both Crue's Debutantes as they were panicking a little on the ball. This seemed to set them up for the second half as nothing passed them and their distribution and all round play was very impressive.
A decent start to the second half saw the Crue's create a few chances to really kill the game off but with poor finishing and a severe lack of real team work saw all chances fade to nothing. Ebbw Vale created a number of chances but nothing really cutting to deserve anything from this game until the Last minute of normal time when their Striker seemed to handle to ball to his advantage and hit a left foot strike into the top corner giving Goal Keeper Ed Ongley no chance. The Away Support which was 25 times the size of the Home support erupted. It was as if they had won the Premier League for the first time in their history. The Final Whistle Blew and the Crue's Coach was not at all happy with this performance and let a few of his players know this once he got into the Changing Rooms.
A very disappointing result for the Crue's who should have easily won this game but at least the rot was stopped after three straight defeats!!
With No Game this Saturday and players to return, the Lads will have to buck up the ideas up if they are to get anything out of the next Two games which are Fairfield and FC Dugout. Both teams riding high in this league and will take a good performance to beat!
Final Score 1 - 1

North Gwent Division 1 - 24/09/2005
Referee - North Gwent's Referee of the the year 2003 + 2004 Attendance - 40 Approx
After the 3rds winning the previous week against RTB, morale was pretty high.
A few players returned for this fixture too which was to give Manager Templers a bit of a selection head-ache. He opted, for the easy option of sticking with a winning side. This raised a few eyebrows as some of the players returning were expected to play. The only change was Gavin Drobac replacing the injured Gavin Hoare who unfortunately looks set to miss the majority of the season. Midfielder Scott Gilchrist returned but failed a late fitness test with the flu. Instead of sitting on the bench he was given the choice to put the subs on and shout orders from the side.
Team morale was soon to drop. A long wait in the changing rooms was to occur due to Shane 'Niblo' Badham arriving late with the kit. Brynmawr's fans were waiting in good numbers and looking forward to watching their very own title contending team.
The conditions were fine, yet the pitch could have done with a decent cut.
Brynmawr started on fire. Attacking well down both flanks and through the middle with plenty of pace and penetration. They were up for it. They took the lead after a couple of minutes before the Crus had even woke up. On 10 minutes, it was still all Brynmawr and they had a corner. The corner was met un-challenged by their towering centre back who powered home. 2-0 to the home side. Crus briefly started to respond. After a Crus cross was cleared, Stuart Thomas struck a 30 yard effort but the Brynmawr keeper was equal to it and tipped it wide. Julian 'Judge' Parr took the resulting corner and found an un-challenged Kelvin Adams at the back post. Adams headed over when he should have at least tested the keeper. Crusaders small efforts didn't seem to have any effect on Brynmawr. The energy in the attacks simply didn't die down for the home side and a good passing move completely ripped the Crus defence apart for 3-0. Crus were second best all over the park and Nigel 'Cat' Franklyn was doing his up-most to prevent a cricket score from happening. Yet more pure football from Brynmawr happened to make it 4-0 on the half-hour. Cat done well to keep it at this score till half-time.
A good half-time team-talk was had after a shambles of a 1st half. Gilchrist promised substitutions to happen real soon. With there being 4 subs, Ryan James was to sit this 1 out. After no appearance training, James paid the price and still awaits his 1st start of the season for the 3rds.
Crus started the 2nd half, knowing pride was at stake at least. Just after 5 minutes of play Gilchrist brought on Robert Trigg and Wayne Brinkley for an in-effective Mark Beecham and Shane Badham who was getting a roasting at left back. Gilchrist also changed the formation to a more positive 3-5-2. Crus started challenging Brynmawr for all the little battles all over the pitch and the home side were no longer expecting a cricket score. They did make it 5-0 mid-way through the 2nd half. Yet more good football resulted in a brilliant through ball for their powerful striker to latch on to and slot home for 5-0. Unfortunately a few Crus head went down and some players were to more or less give up. There were some good 2nd half defensive performances how-ever and Cat was still focused in goals. With 15 minutes to go Cat pulled a muscle in his back and needed treatment. He decided to battle on and play through the pain only to pull off 2 fantastic saves late on. Wayne Brinkley had a half chance but lobbed over from 30 yards when the keeper was in no-mans land. Crus also had the last chance in the game. Julian 'Judge' Parr saw the home keeper off the line and tried the outrageous chip from 40 yards. It hit the post and Gavin Drobac was way too slow following up, allowing a Brynmawr defender to put enough pressure on him and Drobacs poor effort was feebly struck at the keeper. 5-0 final score, but a few positives to be taken from the second half.
Man Of The Match - Nigel Franklyn. The veteran keeper wasn't at fault for any goal and prevented a cricket score with a few fantastic saves.
Dummy Of The Match - Shane Bowen. The promising young midfielder gave up when his side was down, and was simply not up for this battle. Despite being a key member to the side, he has to still play when the going gets tough. In truth though, he was rivaled by half the team for this award today.

Chepstow u/18 0 v Crusaders u/18 1
9/10/05
Man of the match Daniel Pritchard & Lewis Hillier.
During a first half of few goal scoring opportunities with the best chances falling to Sean Chidgey and Robert Lewis with Ashley Baker shot being picked up on the radar system at Bristol Airport with Chepstow Town having to pay a 4.80 toll to retrieve their football.
The only goal of the game came from a direct free kick scored by Sean Chidgey following a foul on Andrew Norris. This was followed by some chances for Lewis Hillier, with the best opportunity falling to Robert Lewis who chased a long ball upfield only to see his effect go wide of the goal. Then Crus best move of the game with good passing and movement lead to Greg Hughes passing the ball to Alex Bullen who dummy the defence by complete missing the ball (training ground move) which lead to Lewis Hillier with his back to goal turning and hitting a superb shot which just cleared the cross bar with the keeper beaten.
In the last five minutes Chepstow lay siege to the crus goal looking for the equaliser with Crus giving away too many free kick which lead to Daniel Morgan Daniel Pritchard and Greg Hughes constantly heading the ball clear, which finally resulted in a fine penalty save from Ryan Macdonald and saw outstanding defending by the back four of Daniel Pritchard, Richard Crompton and the pressed gang full backs of Adam Norris and Ashleigh Baker (The Enforcer)which ensured Crus came away will a fine victory.

Crusaders v Cefn Forest
Venue - Della Hockey
K.O. - 3pm
Conditions - Sunny
The Inform Crusaders 3rd side were eagily awaiting this encounter, with Local Rivals Cefn Forest.
With his side turning up fashionable late(as per usual) Third team manager "Temps" picked the side to enter the field of battle. With Two Lads missing out due to the ruthlessness of the coach, the rest of the lads got changed and proceeded down to the home of football "Stade Della Hockey"!!
The Referee didn't turn up AGAIN so stand in Ref for the Day was Club Sec. Mr. Ian Gilchrist. Having refused to Ref a game at Aberbargoed due to an ankle injury Mr. Gilchrist officiated this Bout through the Pain Barrier!!!
With a Lack Luster start to this game the Crue's were immediately put under the Cosh from a rampant Cefn forest side and within the first five minutes they had gone through on goal 4 times and scored with one of the chances. This was just the Tonic for the Crue's who seemed to need this kick up the Ar*e to get them going, they created a number of chances before Steven Prosser struck an unstoppable shot from a narrow angle which hit the post and then the back of the net. This was what the crowd needed to keep them interested in this game!! Following some more pressure, the Crue's created a few golden chances to take the lead before a quickly taken throw in to Stuart "The Squeak" Thomas saw him hit a shot from about 25 yards to which the keeper didn't move. The was obviously meant by Squeaky but How/Why the keeper didn't move is a mystery to all the lads, none more so than Squeaky. With half time approaching the Crue's were rampant and could have easily increased their lead but failed to find the Net.
Second half saw alot more pressure from the Crue's and good link up play from the Back to the Front saw a chance for Wan to score but he lacked the finishing prowess. His pace was creating havoc for Cefn who couldn't contain him. Cefn then attacked the Crue's and there was a good shout for Hand ball which wasn't given by Gilky and this incensed the opposition. Then a Goal for the Crue's was disallowed for what can only be described as "GBH" on the Goal keeper but nether-the-less the crowd were not happy with this decision. Stand in Manager Niblo made the decision to bring off Manager Temps and replace him with Trigger who had played very well for the Seconds the previous week. Then Ian "Arthur" Daley was brought on, Ian had played for the Seconds also the previous week and was Man of the Match for them. Into the last 25 minutes and the decision was made to give the last subs a run out. Brinkley and Nicky Bodman came on to the crowds delight. Brinkley just back after a holiday in the sun was his usual self(Rubbish)!! But got the lads a corner and took it himself. The ball was whipped in to the front post where Captain Scotty Gilk headed home the Crue's Third goal for the day!!
Then came the Moment of the Match - Brinkley closed down the Right Full back and in doing this, the Football was Kicked straight at his Nether Regions, to the Crowds delight. He hit the Deck like he'd been shot by the Firing Squad causing a further eruption from the Crowd and about 20 Kids on the side of the field!! This lad can do no right whatever the occasion he's an idiot!! Great lad for the Club though, his commitment to turning up every week and sometimes only getting 10 minutes or less which has happened is a welcome note to other's, although in fairness his no Pele!!
With the Clock ticking down there was still time for another Penalty claim from Cefn forest which was a cert for most but the Back Hander given to Gilk Snr. was enough for him to deny the claim!! With that the final whistle was blown with the Crue's taking all Three points and making it 3 without defeat!!
Man of the Match - Scott Gilchrist
Dummy of the Match - Wayne Brinkley (no shock there)
Onwards and Upwards for the Thirds!!!!

In search of a goal scoring center forward we moved Jason up front he managed to score but was not nearly enough to match Pentwynmawr. mistake after mistake gifted Pent an easy 3 points one of the watching parents said we showed a lot of spirit during the game.
we did have a couple of good passing moves up the left with Rhys and Jamie, but overall not a very good day. please can I be sacked.

U11's Crusader Vs Treowen
23rd October
Crus' had three first choice players missing today, so we still played 11 a side without subs which was a big ask of the boys.
Back from his jaunt in the sunny climate of Spain was our regular keeper Luke "Mozzy" Morris and performed very well indeed. The back line saw Kurt, Kyle and Billy, midfield was Lefty Ryan, Elliot, Luke (Capt), and Jordan (special thanks for standing in for Mozzy during his hols) and Iestyn. Up front was Nathan "Feeler" and Lloyd.
The first half was well fought and some good play by both sides saw quite a few chances from both sides but eventually Treowen got to grip with the battle for midfield dominance in the last five minutes of the first half and were rewarded with nice well taken goals.
Halftime saw Jeff "The Boss" give a rousing speech, and reminded the Crus''s that we are still in this game.
Second half started as it ended, Treowen in control of the game with our centre midfield struggling to keep up with the pace. Mozzy saved us many times, and with determined tackling from Kyle and lovely running from Lefty the ball broke out to Jordan who's through ball split the Treowen midfield for a lovely one two between Lloyd and Nathan to allow Lloyd to deftly chip the oncoming keeper to score Crus''s first.
Our second came at the end of the game when Nathan's goal bound shot hit a Treowen players head and went over the line and the game was over.
Special mentions go to:
Mozzy great performance between the sticks.
Kyle once again strong in the tackle.
Ryan improving in every game.
Nathan busy up front.
Lloyd lovely first touch, head up and passing at every opportunity.
Billy getting better all the time.
Treowen great play, a well behaved and good mannered team, it was a pleasure refereeing this game and you are a credit to the sport. Coaching staff and supporters were also great and I hope they enjoyed the match just as much as I did.
Away to Pengam next Sunday with a full strength squad we will see the Crus''s hungry for more.

Crusaders v Fairfield Utd
Date - 22/10/05
Venue - Stade de Pont
K.O - 3pm
Attendance - 30 (even the Stand was opened and the fans piled into it, all 3 of them).
Traveling to a home game has never been so enjoyable!!
Going through the Lanes to get to the Ground the boys came across a lady driver who decided that it was her right of way and no-one was gonna stop her. She drove straight at us making me stop to avoid collision, then Ryan Speed stopped behind me. Unfortunately, Jonny Fishcake left it a little to late to brake and skidded his car straight into the back of Speedy's Mini!! With the Crashing sound ringing out through valley a roar of laughter came from the Thomas machine, Mr Trog and Darren Phillips found it very amusing along with everyone else who witnessed the event!! Never a Dull moment in this club.
Anyway........
After a poor result last time out the Crusaders needed a good performance in this game against high flying Fairfield. With a number of regulars missing there was a chance for a few Third team players to shine!! With the Goal keeper Missing in Action there was a debut in the sticks for Crue's new boy John ?????? and the bench was warmed by the Menace that is Wayne Brinkley and Gavin Drobac.
After a good warm up and team talk the lads were ready to shake off the last game and start a fresh with this encounter. Starting the game very positively the Crue's created a few good chances to take the lead but some lack luster finishing meant the score remained Nil, Nil for about 20 twenty minutes before a well played ball by Randy Simpkins down the right flank saw Dan "The Hitman" Howls out-pace the defence a whip in a Beckham like Cross for Jonny "fishcake" to header superbly into the Top corner!!(Ok, the ball hit his Ear, Shoulder, Eye then went in but the other version sounded much better)!!
With 25 minutes still to go, Fairfield started applying the pressure and our stand in keeper looked extremely shaky when a harmless ball was crossed in and headed onto the Cross bar by Revis. Another Ball crossed in was left as he thought it was going over and that hit the bar and fell to their centre forward who hit the shot cleanly only to be denied by a good save. The lads continued to play good football to the crowds delight and also hit the bar and had a shot or two saved by the opposing Keeper.
Second half started well with the Fairfield Right wing and Right back having to chase Jonny Jones around as he was dazzling the crowd with his runs. The decision was then made to change the Keeper, although he had not conceded it was only a matter of time so Gavin "Versatile" Drobac went in the sticks and was immediately called on. As the game went on the Crue's created a few more chances to increase their lead but a poor miss from Ryan Speed was too be costly as Fairfield broke down the Left Flank and poor marking gave the centre forward a simple tap in to make the scores level. With an injury to Gareth Williams it was time for third team wonder kid "Brinkley" to show his ability at a higher standard and he didn't let the lads down. He chased balls down and put himself about(considering he's 9 stone with a wet duffel coat, on that's not easy to do)!! After more good work from JJ came the deciding moment of the match, Dan "The Hitman" Howls only had to connect with the ball and surely the Crue's would have secured their first win at Stade De Pont but No, Dan had other ideas(what they were, only he knows) but the ball seemed to turn in to a Gold ball as he totally fluffed his lines and the ball went out for a goal kick!! Was there chance for a late charge?? The bar was hit again by the Crue's but with lads tiring there was a big relief when the final whistle went.
Final Score 1 - 1
Both sides played good football and the Crue's were unlucky to not get the 3 points but with 9 points already on the board the Crue's have already met the points tally from last season and there's along way to go in this campaign and teams are not finding it as easy to beat us this season.
Man of the Match - Jonny Jones
Dummy of the Match - Dan Howls (From Hero to Zero) Could have been joined by Ryan Speed if he'd turned up!!

16s Crusaders V Oakdale
After a couple of poor results the fixture v. Oakdale looked a daunting task. To make matters worse we were without 3 key players so we drafted in 3 under 15s JJ, SAM and BEN. We started quite well and were unlucky to go a goal down after a couple of mistakes. Oakdale should have been reduced to 10 men following challenges on JJ who looked as if he was going to score. We went 2 down just before the break by way of another mistake.
The second period proved to be a real battle with the two teams matching up in every department. We played really well but could not score that illusive goal.
Well done boys.

U 11 Pengam Vs Crusaders
After Iestyn's halloween birthday party last night we traveled to Pengam with quite a few of the boys hung over due to sugar overload.
The pitch was more like a rice field but both sides decided to give it ago. Luckily Twinkle Toes came straight from swimming lessons and the knowledge he gained this morning paid dividends.
The game started evenly with both sides trying to take control of the swamp, and Pengam drew first blood with a scrappy goal.
Cru's replied swiftly, the ball through the middle which Lloyd ran onto, quickly up to Nathan, one touch back to Lloyd and a slide rule pass for Twinkle Toes to slot home. Move of the match even in the awful conditions.
As the first 20 minutes finished
Jordan "Braveheart" Jones decided that the pouring rain was just too much and was in danger of frizzing his hair, and came off. Stand in Billy skipped onto the bog and did some fantastic tackles. All the remaining goals were very scrappy except for Ryan "Lefty's" second that was drilled into the back of the net. Defence played well considering, Mid-field held their own and attack managed to trouble Pengam's defence.
We continue to have our best start ever, and the players are growing in self belief. One little negative is that certain players must learn to concentrate for the whole game and not give away silly goals, which happens for too often!!!!
Apart from that well done Cru's.

2nds - FC Dugout v Crusaders
Venue - "Land that time Forgot" AKA - Hilltop
Date - 29/10/05
Conditions - Wet & Windy (Local Summer Time)
A poor turn from the Lads this weekend, with some on a Beano to Bournmouth and an injury to JJ it left the Crusaders with about 8 players for this game with Second in the League, Dugout!!
Having to lose Gavin Evans to a first team recall didn't help matters either, so it was a chance for some Third team players to show what they could do. Steven Prosser, Ian Daley and Gavin Drobac helped out to make the numbers to 11, also a call-up for Cousin Murphy(Dan) to go in the sticks and even Coach Thomas put a kit on and warmed the bench.
Arriving at Dugout at 2.45 there was no time for a warm up so the lads were quickly changed and out on to the Field of Battle. With no more than 3 minutes on the Clock, a poorly marked throw in saw Dugout take the lead. Was this the way the afternoon was to turn out????? The Crue's took note of this error and showed outstanding "Bounce-Back-Ability" and within 5 minutes were back on level terms as Matthew "The Mouth" Jones(AKA Slasher) finished well from about 40 yards after a goal keeping error. Considering there were so many lads missing the Boys put on a excellent show for the crowd. Passing and commitment was second to none on the day and they created a number of chances to take the lead. With about 2 Minutes to halftime came the turning point of the game. The ball was played through to Jonny
Fishcake who was the brought down and given a penalty, after dusting himself off he placed the ball down and took the Spot Kick himself. Unfortunately, the Keeper chose the right way and saved the Penalty.
Second half saw the same commitment and passing play from the Crue's and we were unlucky to not take the lead when Steven Prossers shot from 6 yards was saved by the keeper, how he saved this is still a mystery as it hit him on the back. Stand-In Keeper Dan Murphy was holding everything hit at him on the day and was distraught with himself when he kicked the ball out and it landed at the feet of the Dugout Midfielder who hit it straight back goal wards and Dan couldn't keep the shot out. At 2 - 1 down the lads didn't just give up, they carried on plugging away and were yet again unlucky to not have a goal when a shot by Steven Prosser was cleared off the line by the defender. The final Whistle Blew and Dugout were relieved to say the least.
Considering the Side we put out for this game and the fact that Dugout are 2nd in the league, this was an encouraging performance by the Crusaders and we quite easily could have won this game.
Man of the Match - Jamie Edwards
Dummy of the Match - Fishcake - unable to drink the Yard due to a pending engagement (with the Mrs), it was given to Dan Murphy for his Debut.

Crusaders v Newport Civil Service (Gwent Cup)
Venue - Bettws
KO - 2.00pm
Conditions - Hazardous!!!!
With all Caerphilly Borough Games called off due to bad weather the Seconds traveled to High Flying Newport Civil Service for this Cup Match. NCS are currently top of the league above the Crue's so this was going to be tough from the Start.
The Fact that the 1sts and 3rds didn't have a game meant there should have been ample amounts of players for this game, however, we left with just 12 players including Old Boy Chris Oz and first team players Nipper Berry and "Big and Dumb" himself, Murphy!!! Injuries to Ben English and Gavin Evans meant they were unable to make this encounter.
NCS were expecting an easy encounter but they were shocked to see a Crusaders side attack them from the off an harmless Free-Kick into the box was met by one of their defenders who sliced the Ball (Niblo-Like) over his own keeper in to the Net!!! After going one up the Lads didn't just sit back and hold on to the goal they attacked and created several good chance to increase their lead. The opposition were getting rattled from every area on the pitch and didn't like it!! They did however, create a few good chances which were saved well by Stand In keeper Drobac or Blocked by the outstanding back three!! After some excellent team play the ball was worked down the right flank where Dan "Hitman" Howls unselfishly passed to Slasher to bag his first cup goal in over a season!! Two Nil up the Crue's were on Cloud 9 playing the sort of football that the Premier League is missing at times!! Could the Cup see a huge upset???
At half time there was an assessment of Budgie's hand which he hurt in the closing moments of the half, he was adamant he was staying on but Coach Thomas was not so sure. 5 minutes into the second half Nicky "the Engine" Thomas came off coz he was tired(Love Him)!!! Chris Oz took his place in centre Mid and immediately got stuck in helping the Cause!!!
With the Lads Tiring NCS started to pass it about a little more and create a few good chances to take the lead. Then a hopeful ball into the box saw their striker rise above the defence to head his shot goal wards. The initial header was saved onto the post but as luck would have it, it fell straight to their other striker to tap it in from 2 yards. Not letting this get to them "Nipper" Berry came up with the Comment of the Day "come on Lads we can hold on for a Famous Victory". NCS tried a few different Tactic's and changed their formation but the Lads were magnificent and fought till the end!! With the game in injury time, the Ref gave a free-kick to NCS just outside the box. How many times have we conceded late goals in games where we shouldn't have???? Was this to be the Same???? They put everyone up for this, even their keeper was in the Mixer, the ball was floated in and the effort was hit clear over the bar. The was the last effort they were to have as the Ref blew for Full Time much to the Lads and Managers delight!!!
Look out Second round as the Crue's are on the Cup Trial!!!
Man of the Match - Hard too call this as all the Lads were excellent on the Day.
Dummy of the Match - JJ (the most high pitched squeal I've ever heard come from a man since Aled Jones did "The Snowman Theme" In the Words of Andy Gray "Shocking"!!!!
There was Eridge Vale Free Flowing when we got back to the Club with Randy Simpkins and Fishcake both drinking Yards and every other player and Manager had a pint of the Valley Champaign!!!!

Pont Red Stars V Crusaders
Under 11's
A squad of 13 Cru's arrived at Pont all fired up for this game and after the rain we had it turned out to be a lovely morning.
We kept the famous back three of Kurt (RB), Callum (CB) and reliable Liam (LB) and Luke (Mozzy) in goals. This defensive unit is improving week in week out and only once did they loose concentration which is a great improvement (I think they was discussing what hair gel is best, on a personal note Brylcreem is still the best). Having said that all three read the game well and began to work as a strong unit they are.
Mid Field saw the return of Luke Harris (Anchor), with Kyle in the middle, Lefty Barkway on the LEFT and Lloyd Roberts playing on the right. Upfront we started with Twinkle Toes Meller and Nathan "The Feeler" Evans who by the way played the best he has ever done, causing the defence trouble with nice one twos with Lloyd and good tracking back to continually win the ball back. WEEL DONE FEELER.
The start of the game saw good attacks from both sides and great saves from the goalies, Luke outstanding again in goals. Luke Harris sat well in front of our defence and Kyle made good runs through the centre.
Lloyd was making good run down the right turning the defence and getting some good early crosses in, apart from that he also started to shoot from distance and was rewarded with a cracking goal (good to see him back to his old self).
Our second came from Kurt when he latched onto a cross from Lloyd to head in a lovely goal, he will head the ball when he's not wearing hair gel so from now on no hair gel on match day Kurt!!!!
Ryan played steady on the left with some good runs and had confidence to go forward with having Liam behind him. Liam is getting better and better with every game and he must be the first name on the team sheet, but that's my opinion.
We brought on Iestyn, Billy and Elliot and all did their part, Billy impressed me as he tackles well, never gives up and listens all the time, with time this boy would make a great Graeme Souness.
In the last half we banged in another brace, one from Twinkle Toes and one more from "Lightening" Lloyd Roberts. Good pressure from Pont near the end saw Mozzy pulling off a couple of great saves to earn himself Man of the Match, but on the break we could have had more.
Next week we are at Tredegar and if the boys come away with a result both Jeff and myself have to quit smoking and that will be hard as we go through 20 each on match day, so we will have to hit the whiskey instead to calm our nerves. Goalscorers

New Inn AFC 2 Crusaders AFC 0
Venue - New Inn, Pontypool
Ref - D Mumford
The Crus' travelled to New Inn with high expectations following the giant-killing feat of the previous week against Newport Civil Service.
With chief Honcho Thomas sunning himself in Spain, it was left to Jinxy, fresh from running the New York Marathon and seven months out of the game, to stand in as team manager. In his first ever managerial role, he was able to name a strong side, with only the influential Andrew Simpkins and goal-keeper missing. Gerwyn Frowen (or is that super-tanker?) took on the burden of goalkeeper and the Crus' set about trying to claim the three points.
Unfortunately this game was to be decided by two factors - the referee and bad Crusaders finishing. Trying to be as polite as possible, the referee had an absolute nightmare. The game was but a minute old when he blew up for a free kick on the edge of the Crusaders box. The New Inn attacker fell over his own feet and for some reason the referee gave a free-kick, from which a New Inn player put his team one goal to the good. The rest of the first half was totally dominated by the Crus', who missed chance after chance to equalise through a culmination of good goal keeping and bad finishing. The best of the lot fell to Justin Edwards, who ballooned the ball over the bar from 2 yards out (note that a very unhappy lady had to return the ball from her garden).
The Crus' started the second half where they finished the first, in total control of the game. Again they threw everything at the New Inn goal, but the New Inn goalkeeper was playing a blinder. Then on 50 mins, a New Inn player chased a hopeful long ball into the Crus' box. Revis was in control of the situation but the New Inn player took a speed wobble and fell at Revis' feet. With Revis still in control of the football he cleared it before the ref blew his whistle for what we all thought was a free kick to the Crus'. But no, Mr Magoo had decided Revis fouled (??) the New Inn player and awarded a penalty (which was converted). There was uproar.
Probably the worst decision ever given against the Crus' (well, up to this point anyway).
With the score at 2-0, the Crus' again took total control of the game. But again poor shooting and good goalkeeping kept us at bay. With 15 minutes to go, the Crus' floated a corner into the box towards Revis. The guy marking Revis jumped and slapped the ball away with his hand. The ref blew his whistle and the Crus' celebrated being awarded the penalty. But no, inexplicably the ref gave the hand ball against Revis. This was the final kick in the nuts from the ref, and it was clear from this stage onwards that we were not going to get anything from the game. It got to the situation where the players just had to laugh about it. The final 15 minutes passed with the New Inn keeper pulling of a fine save to deny Fishcake, and the Crus' being denied another stone wall penalty for hand ball (it only hit the one hand !).
Final score 2-0 to New Inn who must have used up their full seasons quota of luck in 90 mins.
Dummy of the match, in the absence of the referee, was awarded to his best mate Mr Reeves who had obviously upset him in some way or form. Justin Edwards also had a pint for the miss of the season whilst Gavin Evans also drunk for time wasting (four shots, four throw-inns)!
Man of the match went to Nicky 'the engine' Thomas. Never in my career have I ever smelt so much alcohol coming from one player, in fact I am sure Budgie got too close to Thommo at half-time and went out drunk for the second half (that explains why Budgie had trouble seeing the ball in the second half)!

Robert Trigg
Crusaders V Cwm Sports
North Gwent Division 1
DATE - 01/10/2005
Venue - Hockey Field
Attendance - 30+
Referee - Chris Parnell
The 3rds were more @ full strength this week after a weekend line-up were taught a footballing lesson by Brynmawr the week before.
Robert Trigg, Scott Gilchrist and Steven Prosser were all re-instated to the starting line-up against lowly placed Cwm Sports and Gavin Drobac kept the captains arm-band. Bottom of the league Cwm are still struggling from the loss of some key players whilst the Crus are looking to get into the top half of the table.
It was Cwm who started the more lively of the 2 sides and went 1-0 in the opening 10 minutes with a brilliant finish through 1 of their strikers. Crus took a while to get to grips with the game but slowly started getting themselves back in contention. On 35 minutes, Steven Prosser?s run from the half way line was to track down Cwm?s left-back (who looked a bit *** Censored ***). Prosser read his under-hit back pass and adjusted his body to coolly slot home with a neat left foot finish. 1-1 and the Crus were level going into the break.
At the half-time interval, player-manager Simon Stevens sacrificed himself to give Ryan James his 1st outing of the season. Ryan 'Keown' James slotted alongside Gilchrist in midfield and Gavin Drobac moved alongside Stuart Thomas @ the heart of the defence. The move was effective as Keown helped control the game from the middle of the park. Crus started much better 2nd half and within a couple of minutes of the re-start the Crus got a corner. Julian 'Judge' Parr's near in-swinging cross was met full on the head of Scott Gilchrist and the Crus were in control. A couple of minutes later a tame Shot from Steven Prosser was surprisingly dropped through the legs of the Cwm?s keeper and Kelvin Adams done well to quickly follow up and make it 3-1. It was the keeper?s only mistake who was otherwise faultless. Unfortunately for the away side it left them Shell shocked and Crus piled on the pressure. Kelvin Adams full of confidence tried a spectacular 30 yard shot and it was heading for the top corner but was well saved by the Cwm Keeper who was looking to make amends for his gaff. Adams then took an in-swinging free-kick and it was met by Stuart Thomas who managed to head against the bar from 1 yard out. Scott Gilchrist was then to have a few chances to add to his tally, 1stly, his left foot shot was tipped round the post when he could have possibly squared it, then shortly after he had another shot with his right, but his shot ended up resulting in a Cwm throw. The Crus kept piling on the pressure and 15 minutes from times, Ryan James and Stuart Thomas rose well with the keeper from a corner but unfortunately both Kelvin Adams and Scott Gilchrist were just short of scrambling the ball home. Steven Prosser was in fine form holding the ball up front and drawing many Cwm defenders into fouls. Crus dominance wasn't quite enough however as they still had their keepers massive kicks to feed off. Crus keeper Nigel 'Cat' Franklyn had little to do 2nd half but he did pull off a good save from a snap-shot. Crus looked to have done enough to seal victory but confusion in the defence resulted Robert Trigg heading a back pass over Cat who couldn't quite scramble the ball from going over the line. 3-2 and a nervous finish in the closing minutes. Steven Prosser brought himself back to help out the defence and midfield and Cwm were limited to long shots.
All in all, a good 3 points for the Crus
Man of the Match - Steven Prosser. Singled handed got Crus back in the game and was too clever for Cwm Sports on this occasion
Dummy of the Match - Robert Trigg. Not a bad performance but set up a tense finish with a clumsy own goal

Crusaders v Undy - Gwent County Cup - Round 2
Venue - Welfare ground Ynysddu
Date - 19/11/05
After a Pitch inspection at "Stade de Pont" it was declared unplayable by Mr Lewis (Match Ref) but with permission from the League, the fixture was played out at the Welfare Ground Ynysddu.
With a number of Key Personnel out it due to injury and Rugby Commitments it was a chance for a few first team players to join the Revolution. Gav Will, Nipper and Frankie got starts and Bazz, Porters and Mongo stocked up the bench.
Within the first 10 minutes of the game Gav Will got injured and needed to come off. Porters took to the field in the Left Wing back position. The pitch played a big part in this game as it was very heavy under foot due to the Rain from previous weeks. After some neat work down the right flank Undy hit the ball straight at Budgie and to everyone's amazement he gave a penalty. It had to be taken twice but it was hit cleanly on both attempts and Fishcake was not given much of a chance to save. The first half saw a lot of possession for the Lads but we failed to make the most of it and were lucky to go in 1 down as their strikers went around fishcake only to miss the open goal.
At half time Bazz had to go on for the Injured Porters.
Within 20 seconds of the restart we were 2 down, this was not what we needed at this stage of the game. after the ball was gifted to the centre forward, fishcake made a cracking save only for Budgie to follow up and net his first of the season(unfortunately, in the wrong net). In fairness to the Boys they kept plugging away and were unlucky not to halve the deficit but a fine save from the keeper meant the score was not to change at this point. Then another some what dubious penalty was given to the Crue's this time, Slasher took the Ball as fishcake was in the sticks only to blast it clean over the bar. After a lot more pressure Slasher was put clean through and made no mistake this time halving the difference. With around 6 minutes to go Revis was put up top and almost instantly we scored a deserved equaliser through Bazz after Slasher had challenged the keeper and squared the ball to him.
With extra time looming the Lads shut off and with a minute to go Undy scored another to go back into the lead. This knocked the Stuffing out of the lads and there was no coming back from it.
Final Score 3 - 2 to Undy.
How we are not in the third round of this cup is anyone's guess!! A host of chances missed by the Lads and a few dubious decisions by the Ref meant that there'll be a few Saturday's without a fixture, maybe we should use these to practice Shooting, and God knows we need it!!
Man of the Match - Jamie Edwards
Dummy of the Match - Budgie
There was a lack of lads back at the club which meant that the mood/atmosphere was some-what quiet!!

Monmouth 4 Crusaders 0
Gwent County Amateur Cup round 2
Venue - Monmouth
With all CCBC games cancelled on Friday night, 2nd team manager Thomas was expecting a strong squad to chose from for this second round cup game. As it turned out, we barely managed to scrape a side together and the rather irate manager had to don the infamous No 14 jersey for the second time this season.
Following the previous rounds heroics against Newport Civil Service, the Crus' travelled to play a talented Monmouth team who were promoted from the third division last season. With 'the Engine' still drunk from Friday night, Kempes threatened to play him in goals as punishment, however Revis decided to take one for the team and pulled on the gloves, in what was to prove a very costly judgement !!
The game started well for the Crus'. Although the confident Monmouth side were enjoying more possession, they never threatened the Crus' goal. They put in a large amount of crosses which Revis dealt with in comfort. As the half drew on, the Crus' started seeing more of the ball and should have taken the lead on 30 mins when Slasher's cross was met by an unmarked Fishcake, who's header drifted agonisingly past the far post. Just five minutes later Monmouth took the lead from what can only be described as a goalkeeping howler. The Crus' had defended a corner well and the ball was bobbling back to Revis in the goal mouth. As he bent down to pick it up he managed to completely miss the ball and it dribbled between his legs and
just across the goal line. As Revis realised what happened, you could see the look of Eridge Vale take over his face ! The score was now 1-0 to the home side and the Crus' support were screaming for Rocky Radford to come out of retirement.
Just before half-time the Crus' themselves had a corner. Slasher put in another great cross which was met by a diving Ben Murphy. The connection was great and he sent a bullet header past the Monmouth keeper, but
unfortunately it hit the Monmouth full-back who was stood on the line and after a scramble the ball was hooked clear (when will we get a piece of luck to go our way?). The ref blew for half-time with the score still at 1-0.
The second half started in much the same way as the first, but just before the hour the Crus' pushed forward and Slasher unleashed a twenty yard drive which crashed against the post. The ball came back into the six yard box where Barry Williams followed up only to be denied from equalising with a tremendous last ditch tackle. As is the norm for the Crus', after missing the chance to score we managed to concede within a couple of minutes. A hopeful long ball was completely missed by Budgie (who was still thinking about Friday nights Pizza incident), and after a couple of passes Monmouth blasted the ball home to make it 2-0. For the next ten minutes the Crus' fell apart. The third goal was the best of the game, outside of the right foot from twenty yards which flew past Revis in the goals. The only problem was that the foot belonged to Jamie, who managed to notch his first of the season in his own net ! Another one to be added to the Eridge list, but with a finish like that, perhaps an answer to Dai's goal scoring problems?
Although Monmouth scored another before the end, the Crus' managed to get their composure back and even played the last ten minutes with 10 men when Dai decided to give himself a run-out !! A good few touches on the ball from Dai but his game will be remembered for an horrific incident which saw him hurt his finger! How he managed to play on in such pain is amazing, and he also managed to soldier on through the night despite being in such obvious discomfort.
Despite playing against a very good side, the Crus' must be disappointed in giving away three cheap goals. With all the cup competitions out of the way it is now time to concentrate on climbing the league.

U9's Vs U7's Practice Match
Today saw two of our mini's play a great and entertaining game of football, which was arranged to give the U7's their first run out and the U9's a practice after missing so many game due to the recent weather. A light hearted approach was taken with Tim reffing the game at short notice and slightly favouring the young un's.
The sevens had three of the nines player to help guide them through their first run out in the Crusader shirt and everyone seemed to enjoy the event.
I wish to take this opportunity to thank the Under 9's manager Phil for allowing this game to take place and both sides parents for coming out to cheer the teams. In the final third both myself and Phil took to the field to assist the kids, and at one moment Phil was set upon by most of the U7's for hogging the ball, well in boys I say.
PS For Cat ( Nigel ) hope you paid your Lewis the money!!!!!

Under 7's V Pontyminster
A very warm welcome given by Dai Goodwin, his staff and Pontyminster's supporters, for which we are very grateful.
A squad of six travelled down the valley for the noon kick off with the boys looking forward to the match. Four of our remaining squad were unable to go but the six boys can be proud of their performance. The game was played with two fifteen minute halves, and each side had good chances to score.
No team really dominated this match which was good as the game was end to end stuff with really good football being played. The young children all played well with some good fair tackling and passing, I found myself admiring Pontyminster No 14 who was very good on the ball. Having said that I had personnel satisfaction in the way our boys played. Lewis was good between the goals, Kallan strong in the tackle and passing, Michael confident on the ball, Jordan making good runs with and without the ball, Luke great in the middle of the park, and Cameron making some important tackles at the back.
Pontyminster players were also very impressive, their staff and parents can be very proud of their young side. We will play again in the new year at Cru's ground hopefully on the 15th January, and I hope that we can make them feel as welcome as they did to us.
Well done Dai and on behalf our Crusader AFC thank you for great day.

After struggling to score I picked on Nathan to play up front on his own. Never having scored for the Crus he seemed in confident mood. this was well placed he scored his 1st just after the start of the game 1 nil up we had the game under control into the 2nd half and after a good attack by pent Jason sent their forward tumbling into the box for a penalty. 1-1. then the boys showed some true grit and really started to pressure the pent defence Nathan latching on to a trough pass slipped the ball past the out coming keeper. His 3rd quickly followed with another delightful pass past the keeper. A well deserved win and I must say about time.

Crusaders 2 Trethomas Bluebirds 5
Venue: Islwyn Park
Ref: D Mumford
In their last game before the Christmas break, the Crus' hosted a strong Trethomas side, who were looking to climb back towards the top of the table. Despite being able to name a 14 man squad, Manager Thomas had to change his plans at the last minute when Revis pulled up with a strained hamstring in the warm-up. This meant Drobac, who himself was suffering from a dose of the green apple splatters, had to play centre half with Leon taking over the gloves for the third week in a row.
It was always going to be a difficult game against a physical Trethomas side, but the Crus' made it even more difficult by gifting them a goal in the first five minutes. A series of mistakes saw the Trethomas centre forward go clean through and put his side 1 up. Within ten minutes he had doubled the lead when more lacklustre defensive work led to another goal. The Crus' now found themselves 2-0 down with less than 20 minutes on the clock, and a hammering looked on the cards, however, after a few rallying cries from the Fishcake, and the sight of Matty Bevan stripping down to his underpants to retrieve a ball from the Sirhowy, the Crus' battled back.
A cross field ball from the Fishcake found the Hit man Howls in the Trethomas box. With only the keeper to beat, Dan rounded him and actually managed to head the ball into the net - many thought the day would never come when Dan scored with his head but miracles do happen at this time of year. If Dan could score with his head, the lads believed that they could actually get a result against Trethomas, and by now were pushing hard to get an equalizer. With ten minutes to go until half-time, JJ put a quality cross into the Trethomas box which was met well by Jamie who sent his header crashing against the post. The ball managed to rebound safely for Trethomas who broke quickly and themselves hit the crossbar, however this time the ball fell nicely for the Trethomas centre forward who nodded home to claim his hat trick, and put his side 3-1 up.
A mix up between Drobac and Revis led to the Trethomas fourth goal, but there was still time for the Crus' to get a goal back before half-time when Fishcake slotted home to make the score 2-4 at half-time. The second half was a non-event. A number of the Crus' players were now feeling the strain from too much drink on Friday night and Trethomas had a lot of the ball in midfield without creating many chances. Not even the sight of Bevan stripping off to get another ball from the Sirhowy could rally the troops, and with 15 minutes to go Trethomas scored their fifth to put the final nail in the Crus' coffin. By now you could sense both the Curs' and the Bluebirds had their minds on the pub and the game drifted to the final whistle.
Although the Crus' had a patched up team, they battled well for an hour, and managed to give a strong Trethomas side a scare. However, Trethomas are probably the strongest team in the third division and should find themselves getting promoted at the end of the season. As for the Crus', well with Ebbw Vale winning on Saturday we need to get our act together and start picking up points again - starting with the crunch game against Thornwell on New Years Eve (also know as the Claude Price memorial game).
Man of the Match - this has to be Matt Bevan for stripping off twice in sub-zero temperatures to get balls from the Sirhowy!!

Rassau Rangers Vs Crusaders
Venue Beaufort Welfare
Date 8th Jan
K.O. 10:30
With two players representing the district and one in his sick bed Cru's travelled to Rassau with the remainder of the squad eager to play after a long lay off.
Crus kicked off and quickly took control of the game, but within five minutes they had lost the plot and Rangers began to move the ball very well. They began to get beyond our midfield at will and were very threatening down the flanks. Maybe it was the way we started the game or lack of match games but we were not in the game at all, |
