Friendly match: Under 18s V 3rds
Date: 16/08/2007
Venue: Crusaders Junior Field
Conditions: Lovely
Referee: Philip Morris
Under 18s were missing just a few players from the squad, whereas the 3rds could bring in some keen reserve players for their players that were missing. A lot of reserves were eager to get a little run our before their league opener at new Inn on the week-end. Oh yeah, Shearer returned as well.
The Under 18s could have taken the lead in the 1st minute but Scott Gilk was quick off his line with a tackle. After 10 minutes, Gregory Hughes scored a belter from 30 yards to put the 3rds 1-0 up.
Mid-way through the 2nd half, the 3rds were awarded a penalty which Daniel Morris slotted away for 2-0.
The 18s were on top for the rest of the half with Scott Gilk saving well twice to keep the 3rds ahead at the break.
2nd half and Jamie Firth shot just wide of the post before Calvin went up the other end to make it 3-0 after an hour. Calvin has had a decent pre-season and it was about time he finally put 1 of his shots into the back of the net.
Last 20 minutes and 3rds assistant manager DJ Kat, brought on a lot of the reserves player who needed a little run out before their week-ends game. Dan Morris instantly made it 4-0.
Robert Trigg scrambled a very rare goal in for 5-0. Trigg was very mobile all game from left wing back.
Louty made it 6-0 with a very good finish indeed before Dan Morris completed his hat trick for 7-0. Dan Morris easily could have had 5 on the night after.
A bit unfortunate that the 18s gave up completely towards the end of the match, but there were positives from both sets of teams.
Under 18s Man of the Match: Liam Davies. Solid at the back in the 1st half and unlucky not to score from a free kick.
3rds Man of the Match: Ashley Reid. Continued his good pre-season form with a great defensive display. Stuck to his task well as his team ran riot too.
Under 18s Dummy of the Match: Jack Tinklyn. Never really got into the game.
3rd Dummy Of The Match: Dan Howls. Had a run out for match fitness and missed a hat trick of simple chances. Assistant Manager DJ Kat has already started rumours of Howls drinking eridge Vale from the welly on Saturday.
