15.9.2007 - U16 - Crusaders 6-3 Cwmbran Celtic

After last weeks draw with Fleur-dy-Lys (3-1 up with 2 minutes to go-disaster) & a few absentees Clinton & Chris were forced to ring the changes. Nic D, stepping in at centre-half showed his versatility & willingness to do any job asked of him, combined well with Ayden “speedy Gonzalez” Price.

The game started slowly with both teams struggling to create a clear chance. Then the cru’s were forced to make a change with Dan “the man” Price taking a knock. Amazingly dropped to the bench for this friendly match Carter ”beanhead” came on & turned the match on its head. Within minutes of his arrival the “supersub” hit a screamer from all of 35 yards which left the keeper rooted.

Goal of the season? The man from Del-Monte he says YES!

The 16`s then went on to dominate the half with Adam “the cat” Brinkley & Luke “long Body” making it 3-0 but both could have made it more but wasted golden chances.

The 2nd half started with Dan “the man” back on & a change between the sticks with Jod replacing “Hair-Bear” Cooper. The match continued with Brink & Dan combining well and grabbing a goal each. 5-0. A few more positional changes saw Cwmbran get a foothold and were rewarded with a penalty, which Jod had no chance with. The cru’s had by this point taken the foot off the pedal which they were duly punished for with a 2nd goal for the Celtic. Another change for the 16`s saw Cooper thrown on outfield and he found himself in the opposition box unmarked and he took his chance at the 2nd time of asking poking the ball home. After throwing it away last week & a few stern words from the managerial team you think lessons would have been learnt and this game shut out ,but yet again a last minute goal was gifted to the resilient opposition.

Overall a fine display by the cru’s with just one or two lapses of concentration which must be eradicated for the visit of Llanhilleth next Saturday.
